Today, Thursday (May 1, 2025), according to the ecclesiastical calendar, we honor the memory of Prophet Jeremiah, Saint Panaretos, Osia Isidora, Saint Tamara, and Saint Philosopher. Prophet Jeremiah was likely born around 650 B.C. in the small town of Anathoth in the tribe of Benjamin, northeast of Jerusalem. His father, Helkias, was a priest, and Jeremiah grew up in a strict priestly family. He studied the earlier prophets Isaiah and Hosea. At about the age of 23-25, around 627-625 B.C., he was called by God to the prophetic office. Despite his initial reluctance due to his youth, Jeremiah accepted God’s call with divine assurance. Today is also International Workers’ Day and the Global Day for Cannabis Legalization.
