in

Today, the Second Sunday of Lent (March 16, 2025), according to tradition, honors the memory of Gregory Palamas, Saint Christodoulos the Miracle-Worker of Patmos, and Saint Julian. The Church also celebrates the Feast of the All-Pure Rose of the Virgin Mary. Names celebrated today include Christodoulos, Christodoula, Julianos, Giouslanos, Gregoris, Gregorios, Golis, and Gregoria. Saint Christodoulos, known as ‘the one in Patmos,’ was born around 1020 AD near Nicaea in Bithynia. From a young age, he desired to leave worldly life for monasticism. He began at a monastery on Mount Olympus in Bithynia, later moving to the Holy Lands before settling in Latros Mountain in Asia Minor. Despite his many travels due to invasions, he eventually arrived in Patmos, where he established a renowned monastery. After further attacks, he sought refuge in Euboea, where he briefly resided before returning to Patmos. His relics are preserved today in the small chapel of Saint Christodoulos at the Monastery of Patmos.
