Today, Wednesday (April 9, 2025), according to the ecclesiastical calendar, the feast day of Saint Eupsychius the Martyr is celebrated. The names that celebrate today are as follows: Eupsichios, Eupsychos, Eupsychis, Eupsychia, Eupsychoula, Eupsychitsa, Psyhoulas. Saint Eupsychius was a martyr in Caesarea. Saint Eupsychius lived during the reign of Julian the Apostate. Despite being unmarried, this did not deter him from showing his immense love for Christ through action. In Caesarea of Cappadocia, Julian had erected an idol of the goddess Fortune, which the idolaters worshiped daily. Eupsychius, along with some other courageous young men, went and destroyed the idol. When arrested, he told the official that Julian had no right to carry out idolatrous acts in Christian Caesarea. Of course, Eupsychius knew beforehand that the verdict would be condemnatory. Indeed, his accomplices were sentenced to torture and exile, while he himself, as the leader of the act, was condemned to death by beheading. Thus, Eupsychius joined the ranks of those people for whom the Lord said: “Whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.” Those who lose their lives for faith in ‘me’ will gain the blessed and higher life.
