Many consumers are waiting until the last minute to stock up on essentials for tomorrow’s Easter feast, as prices traditionally drop in anticipation of a sellout. According to a report by ertnews, both the Varvakeio market in Athens and the Kapani market in Thessaloniki are experiencing less bustling activity compared to previous Easter celebrations. Consumers are generally more restrained and are purchasing only the absolute necessities. Lamb and goat prices at Varvakeio range from €8 to €10 per kilo today, while lamb prices across the market hover between €11 to €12 per kilo, and goat meat sells for €12 to €13 per kilo. As the day progresses, merchants expect increased foot traffic with stores staying open until 5:00 PM. In Thessaloniki’s central market, consumers who waited until the last moment seem justified in their decision, as prices have dropped from the earlier rates of around €15, €14, or €13 per kilo. Other options like pork mince and chicken are even more affordable.
