The Municipality of Athens is sending its own awareness message about global warming by participating in the ‘Earth Hour 2025’. Taking place today, Saturday (22.3.2025) from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM, this is the largest global participatory campaign initiated by WWF in 2007. Iconic landmarks, significant monuments, organizations, businesses, and millions of citizens across over 180 countries worldwide will participate. As part of this initiative, the Municipality of Athens will switch off lights at the Town Hall on Kotzia Square, the Municipal Offices on Liosion Street and Patision Street, Technopolis, Kypseli Municipal Market, the Maria Callas Museum, and the Home of Athenians at the Municipality’s Reception and Solidarity Center. Additionally, the Municipality calls upon Athens residents to join this symbolic initiative by turning off their home lights for an hour, sending a loud message for planet protection and climate change mitigation. Notably, Earth Hour 2025 in Greece is dedicated to the sea, which directly impacts our quality of life and the existence of countless species. The sea is home to unique creatures such as sperm whales, Caretta caretta turtles, and Mediterranean monk seals, along with beaches and tourist destinations, underwater routes, sailing trips, and Greek fishing boats that preserve our traditions.
