Over €617.5 million has been disbursed to 1,142,948 eligible farmers across Greece — representing 529,494 unique tax IDs — as part of the June 2026 agricultural support payments. The payments are being processed through a newly integrated system that transfers responsibility for disbursement from the Hellenic Organisation of Agricultural Insurance (OPEKEPE) to the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE).

A Major Institutional Reform

In a statement, Minister of Rural Development and Food Margaritis Schinas described the integration of OPEKEPE into AADE as “the largest ongoing reform in the country today.” He emphasized transparency, rigorous controls, and full utilization of available EU funds, underscoring that the money is reaching those who genuinely produce and sustain the Greek economy through their labor.

Schinas highlighted the integrity of the new payment system, which ensures accountability in managing European funds. He addressed honest producers directly: “You have nothing to fear. On the contrary, you have every reason to feel justified — because this new process guarantees that funds go to those who truly earn them: real producers, not those seeking to exploit gaps or flaws in the old system.”

AADE’s Commitment to Timely, Verified Disbursements

George Pitsilis, Director General of AADE, reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to its announced schedule: “Consistent with our plan, we continue steadily with the disbursement of agricultural aid — following thorough verification — to ensure more money reaches those who truly deserve it.”

Breakdown of Payment Categories

According to the joint announcement by the Ministry of Rural Development and Food (YPAAFT) and AADE, the €617.5 million is allocated as follows:

  • Basic Income Support for Sustainability: €112.03 million
  • Complementary Redistribution Income Support for Sustainability: €6.19 million
  • Additional Income Support for Young Farmers: €577,782
  • Linked Support for Crop Production: €22.48 million
  • Linked Support for Livestock Production: €16.67 million
  • Eco-schemes: €440.11 million
  • Support for Small Islands of the Aegean Sea: €14.51 million
  • Special Cotton Cultivation Support: €4.57 million
  • Interprofessional Cotton Support: €332,035

Exceeding Payment Targets

The announcement also notes that total Pillar I payments for May and June 2026 reached €802.4 million — exceeding the original target of €701.3 million by approximately €101 million.

Furthermore, following the completion of required checks and full use of flexibilities under the EU Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) 2023–2027 Strategic Plan, the government’s pledge to provide additional support to livestock farmers, cereal producers, and cotton growers has been fully honored. This includes setting record-high unit rates for linked support and eco-schemes.
