Greece’s one-off €150 per child bonus will be paid automatically—without requiring an application—from the tax authority’s (AADE) existing data. The payment is scheduled to be credited to eligible recipients’ bank accounts by 30 June 2026.
Who qualifies?
The benefit applies to parents who are tax residents of Greece and meet specific income criteria. Payments will be made directly to the bank account registered with AADE.
Eligibility is based on the taxpayer’s 2024 income tax return, as finalized by the last working day of May 2026. The bonus covers each dependent child as defined under Greece’s Income Tax Code—including both common and non-common children in cases of separation or divorce.
Income thresholds
The income limits are:
- €40,000 for married couples or cohabiting partners—with an additional €5,000 for each dependent child beyond the first;
- €39,000 for single-parent families—with the same €5,000 increment per additional child.
The assessment uses the household’s total family income, including all taxable and tax-exempt, actual and deemed income from any source. This means eligibility is determined not only by declared taxable income but by the broader financial picture reflected in the tax return.
No application required
There will be no dedicated application platform. AADE will calculate and disburse payments automatically using its existing database.
For joint tax returns, the full amount is paid to the spouse—or cohabiting partner—listed as the primary taxpayer. In cases of separate returns:
- For shared children, the €150 is split equally between both parents;
- For non-shared children, the amount is also split if both parents declare the child as dependent; otherwise, it goes entirely to the parent who included the child in their return.
Newborns and timing
Special provisions apply to children born between 1 January 2025 and 31 July 2026:
- Babies born in 2025 must be listed in the 2025 income tax return to qualify for the bonus—linked to the 2025 tax year filing;
- Those born between 1 January and 31 July 2026 may still receive the payment by 31 August 2026, provided income criteria are met—and an AFM (Tax Identification Number) is requested for the child by 10 August 2026.
Tax and legal status
The €150 payment is tax-free and legally protected from seizure—meaning it cannot be withheld for debt collection or other enforcement actions.
