E. Pavlopoulos: “it is Imperative that the return of the Parthenon marbles”

The President of the Republic, Prokopis Pavlopoulos proclaimed the opening of the International Conference with the theme : “The Sculptures of the Parthenon : 200 years of the ιδιοποίησή…
from the British Museum”, which takes place in the Acropolis Museum.
The uniqueness of the Parthenon as a monument of World Cultural Heritage and the need for repatriation of the Sculptures in order to symbolize and to transmit to Humanity the eternal and unique cultural message that his part, underlined the President of the Republic, mr. Prokopis Pavlopoulos, during the opening speech at the International Conference with the theme : “The Sculptures of the Parthenon: 200 years of the ιδιοποίησή from the British Museum”, which takes place in the Acropolis Museum.
The President of the Republic stressed that the return of the Sculptures, especially of the Parthenon, it is necessary because “Without these sculptures, the Parthenon, heavily wounded by a sacrilegious act of vandalism and looting, which is covered here, and for more than two centuries of the lion’s skin of a so-called “αρχαιολατρίας”, which affects directly the Global Cultural Heritage, can not symbolize, and to transmit to Humanity the eternal, evergreen and unique cultural message that it deserves”.
As to the global cultural significance uniqueness of the Parthenon and the Monuments of the, noted that there is no need to argue about for a long time and was a self-evident truth, which is based on solid evidence.
In particular, he referred to the testimony of Andre Malraux, which is contained in his speech of 28 May 1959, when he represented the French Government during the first floodlighting of the Acropolis, and in which he had pointed out, based on the Global cultural reach of the Parthenon and the modern technological means by which the message –the appeal of Pericles may be emitted to the entire Mankind: “The first world civilization began”.
In fact, citing parts of the speech of Malraux stood in his report that “…The Citadel is the only place in the world, which is inhabited at once by the spirit and by the courage”, as well as to the point of sintering, through the message of the Parthenon, the essence of the Ancient Greek Culture as a component of the timeless World of Culture that “will never cease to proclaim: what it means for us, so confusing a word education-the whole of the works of art and the spirit-the Greece turned, for the glory of the, major means of educating the man. Be the first culture without a sacred book, where the word intelligence means to pose questions. Questions, which was destined to give birth to the conquest of the world by the spirit, of the fate of the tragedy, of the divine art and man”.
Mr Pavlopoulos, and praised also the work of the International Committees for the success of this common goal, the return of the Parthenon marbles in the dorm, this unique Monument of World Cultural Heritage, and pointed out that this is a fight, which is linked αρρήκτως with the satisfaction of a perfectly fair request, which we must serve all of us regardless of nationality, as it is a demand of Humanity, which regards the core of its Cultural Heritage.
In conclusion, he assured that the cause for which we fight is the institutional fair and morally imperative, in the name of the World Heritage site and devoted his opening speech to the memory of Melina Merkouri, which-as noted-is and will be, as the final repatriation of the Parthenon Sculptures, the Mastermind of our efforts and the vestal virgin of the Acropolis Museum, which hosted the Conference.
