“Door” again in Turkey for the abolition of the visa

High-ranking european official, citing the report of the Commission of the EU, said today to Reuters that Turkey is not progressing adequately in…
reforms in order to meet the terms of the migration agreement, which would allow the Turks to travel to the European Union without needing a visa.
On the basis of the agreement reached in March last year at the peak of the largest migration crisis that has faced Europe after the Second World War, Turkey has committed itself to prevent refugees from the Middle East and Asia to move from its territory to the EU in exchange for economic support and access for their citizens without entry visas.
Turkey goes well with regard to border controls, but in the regular report that the Commission will make public next week, states that continues to delay reforms, “the αντιτρομοκατική legislation, party financing, judicial cooperation,” said the source.
The complexities around the negotiations for the reunification of Cyprus is not a sign of also nothing good for Turkey, the official said.
A representative of the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan said yesterday that Ankara expects the European Union to proceed as soon as possible in measures for the abolition of visas.
This statement was rejected as “meaningless” in Brussels, because Turkey does not fulfil the conditions, the official said of the EU, noting: “they Need to maintain the fiction for their own population”.
The official admitted that the management of borders and the support of Turkey to refugees “work well”, but is not expected soon some progress on the issue of visas because there are no expected changes in the anti-terrorism legislation before and immediately after the Turkish referendum on the constitution that will πράγματοποιηθεί on 16 April.
The referendum –which it is expected that it will give more powers to the president– “creates only problems” as well as “the draft constitution has very serious flaws,” said the EU official.
The EU will not comment officially on the constitutional review of Turkey in order not to appear to meddle in the electoral process, however, the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe, a panel of legal experts, will be announced in mid-March critical comments, said the EU official.
The official categorically rejected the possibility to take place before the referendum a summit meeting between the EU and Turkey, despite the desire of Erdogan for the realization of such a meeting.
At a Press conference today in Brussels, a representative of the Commission informed the official line of the EU: “THE work goes on, and both the European Union and Turkey remain committed to the agreement of March, and to the corresponding obligations’.
