In a message directed at multiple recipients concerning oil prices, former U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a warning against increasing oil prices amidst the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran. In a post on Truth Social on Monday (June 23, 2025), Trump addressed countries considering raising oil prices following American strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities over the weekend. “(I’m speaking) to all of you, keep oil prices low. I’m watching you! You’re playing the enemy’s game. Don’t do it!” Trump wrote. Notably, oil prices temporarily dipped into negative territory today after spiking overnight in response to the U.S. strikes on Iran, with markets seemingly dismissing the possibility of Tehran blocking the Strait of Hormuz, through which 20% of global oil passes. Prices subsequently showed a slight increase. By midday Monday, the price of a barrel of North Sea Brent crude for August delivery rose by 0.39% to $77.31. The corresponding American WTI barrel for the same month increased by 0.37% to $74.11. Brent had initially surged by 5.7% at the start of trading, reaching $81.40 per barrel, its highest level since late January, but the market eventually calmed down.
