Again innocent will be declared as part of his prosecution from American justice for his illegal attempt to overturn the 2020 result. Donald Trump’s intention came to light from a document filed yesterday by defending the Republican former head of the US state, who will claim his re-election in the November 5 presidential election. The Republican candidate who decided not to attend the next hearing — tomorrow Thursday—on which Judge Tanya Chatkan will chair, he authorized advocates of testifying not guilty. He had already pleaded not guilty in August 2023, when the original indictment was presented, released by special prosecutor Jack Smith. On 27 August, this latter made public a revised prosecution, taking into account an unprecedented decision by the Supreme Court on 1 July that recognizes criminal immunity to the President of the United States in line. The revised indictment repeats, however, the same heavy charges. Donald Trump is accused of “colluding against American institutions” and attempted to deprive the “right to vote” of American voters by lobbying local authorities of various states, to cancel the official outcome of the presidential election won by his Democratic opponent Joe Biden. Tomorrow’s hearing is expected to focus on the proposals of both sides for the follow-up of the case, particularly on the timetable. It was no surprise that the defense requested last week time to study the charges which means that the trial will begin much later than the November election and even to take over his or the next president’s duties in January 2025. For his part special prosecutor Smith was not mentioned at any date, leaving it to be appointed by the seat. Mr. Smith assured that he is ready to present in writing his arguments on the issue of criminal immunity invoked by Donald Trump, who was president when the events unfolded, “any time the federal court deems it appropriate.”
