The US special envoy, Steve Wittkoff, stated in an interview broadcast on Friday (21.03.2025) that the message from President Donald Trump’s letter to Iran aims to create a ‘trust relationship.’ On March 7th, Trump revealed he sent a letter to Iran, proposing renewed negotiations regarding the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program while warning of potential military actions if no agreement is reached. According to Wittkoff, the letter subtly conveys: ‘I am the president of peace, this is what I want. There’s no reason for us to take up arms. We need to talk.’ He added that the US seeks a program ensuring no one worries about Iran’s militarization and expressed optimism about resolving issues diplomatically. Since withdrawing from the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), relations between the US and Iran have been severed since 1980, with sanctions severely impacting Iran’s economy. Despite tensions, Trump remains open to resolving matters diplomatically. Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei criticized American threats, stating they won’t lead anywhere concerning Iran. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed an official response will come in the coming days. Western nations, especially the US and Israel, accuse Iran of pursuing nuclear weapons, allegations Tehran denies.
