The American president assured on Thursday evening (24/4/25) that the USA is exerting ‘strong pressure’ on Russia with the aim of ending the war in Ukraine, estimating that Moscow would make ‘a fairly significant concession’ by agreeing not to dominate the entire country. ‘We are exerting strong pressure on Russia,’ said the US president during the reception of Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre at the Oval Office of the White House. Earlier, Donald Trump stated that he has his own deadline for the resolution and that both Ukraine and Russia must negotiate. When asked by a journalist what concession Moscow is willing to make, Trump replied ‘to stop the war’ and continued ‘to stop, so they don’t take the whole country’, clarifying that it’s a ‘fairly significant concession’ from Russia. The US president emphasized that ‘Ukraine must also want to reach an agreement.’ Upon entering the White House with the head of the Norwegian government, Trump was asked by a reporter if he believes Putin will listen. ‘I believe so,’ answered the American president. On Wednesday (23/4/25), President Trump had strongly criticized Volodymyr Zelenskyy, accusing him of ‘incendiary statements,’ as the Ukrainian president reiterated Kyiv’s position that it will not recognize Russian sovereignty over the annexed Crimean peninsula.
