A few hours after the inauguration and taking over his duties, the American president first called on his Russian counterpart to close a “peace deal” with Ukraine, predicting that otherwise he risks Russia being “disastered”. Vladimir Putin congratulated US 47th President Donald Trump assured him that he would seek “permanent peace” with Kiev. CORVERSE Republican billionaire, re-elected 5 November 2024, has repeatedly said that he is preparing a summit with Vladimir Putin to “end” the armed conflict that began with the invasion of the Russian army on 24 February 2022. In the Oval Office, where he signed a true volley of decrees, Mr Trump reiterated that he expects to “talk to President Putin” who would be very satisfied if he put an end to this war.” However, for the first time so openly, he put pressure on Moscow, warning that Russia will be led to a “destruction” if Mr Putin refuses to negotiate and conclude a ceasefire or peace agreement with his Ukrainian counterpart Volontimyr Zelenski. CORVERSE Ukrainian President Volontimir Zelensky “wants to close deal. I don’t know if Putin wants it, maybe not. (But) He has to do it. I believe he is going to destroy Russia by refusing to reach an agreement,” Mr Trump insisted. Mr Trump repeatedly denounced in the campaign the spending of tens of billions of dollars to provide military and financial assistance to Ukraine by the government of his predecessor Joe Biden. Yesterday, however, it seemed to have changed a marked purpose. “Russia is facing major problems. See the economy, inflation,” he told reporters, adding that Moscow estimated in February 2022 that “the war would end in a week and we have reached three years.” “I understand very well with him (Mr Putin) and I hope he will want an agreement to be concluded,” insisted the businessman, who likes diplomacy of exchange. Open to dialogue with the U.S. Putin Russian president for his part said yesterday “open to dialogue with the new American government on the war in Ukraine”. “The purpose should not be a brief ceasefire”, but “long-lasting peace”, he noted. Donald Trump was campaigning to put an end “within 24 hours” to the war in Ukraine and had called for a “direct ceasefire” to be declared and negotiations to begin. But then he recognized that the process would probably take months. The Kremlin officially wants to capitulate Ukraine, renounce its prospect of NATO membership, and Russia to maintain the Ukrainian regions it has announced it annexed. As for Ukrainian President Zelensky, he also congratulated Donald Trump, whose policy to restore peace by force “gives the opportunity to strengthen the American leadership role and reach peace just and lasting, the ultimate priority.” The one that Moscow baptized a ‘special military operation’ in Ukraine is in itself nothing but a conflict by representatives with Washington and its allies, who accuses them of supporting the ‘regime’ of Kiev, illegal, neo-Nazi and anti-Russian, during the current Russian rhetoric. Russian troops gradually gain territory On the other hand, Ukraine and its allies say that the war broke out because of Russia’s will to keep its neighbour under its own influence after the pro-Western “revolution” of 2014 (“pracque” for the other side). On the fronts of the war, Moscow’s troops have gained slowly but stable territory in recent months, while the Ukrainian army, exhausted, is faced with shortages of means and personnel. The casualties of the armed forces of both Russia and Ukraine are as expected military secret and various estimates of them are very difficult to verify, but it is given that the dead and wounded are hundreds of thousands on both sides.
