US President Donald Trump is reportedly working on a major deal with Ukraine concerning the control of nuclear plants and all power stations in the country. During a conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Trump proposed that the US would take over these facilities to protect Ukraine from Russian attacks. Meanwhile, negotiations regarding Ukraine’s fossil fuels appear stalled, as White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt stated, “We have moved beyond the economic fossil fuel agreement; we are at a point of peace, a partial ceasefire.” In their first phone call since the Oval Office incident, Trump emphasized that American ownership of these stations would provide the best protection for the infrastructure and support Ukraine’s energy grid. The one-hour call also saw Zelenskyy requesting additional Patriot missile defense systems, to which Trump agreed to cooperate, particularly seeking European availability. Levitt noted that Russia and Ukraine “have never been closer to peace,” adding that upcoming US-Ukraine talks will occur in Saudi Arabia soon. Despite Russian demands to halt intelligence sharing, the White House confirmed it will continue aiding Ukraine. Both leaders agreed to cease targeting each other’s energy infrastructures. Trump also committed to ensuring the return of children taken by Russia to their homeland, highlighting ongoing humanitarian efforts.
