While the U.S. has its own history with British colonialism—next year marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence by the original thirteen states from Great Britain—King Charles envisions a more cooperative relationship through this initiative. The Commonwealth currently consists of 56 nations, including the United Kingdom and many former colonies.
