Republican candidate for the US presidency said yesterday (30.10.2024) that, if elected on 5 November, the European Union ( ) will pay a “great price” for not buying enough American products. “I’ll tell you something, the EU sounds so nice, so good, right? All the nice, small European countries working together,” Donald Trump said during an election rally in the two-way state of Pennsylvania, after promising to adopt “Trump’s repayable commercial bill”. “They don’t like our cars. They don’t like our agricultural products. They sell millions and millions of cars in the United States. No, no, no, they will have to pay a big price,” he stressed. The Republican former US president has pledged to impose 10% duties on imports of products from all countries and 60% on imports from China. Economists warn that this will hit the supply chain globally and it is likely to cause repayable duties and increase costs.
