Donald Trump considers the ceasefire deal to be his own success in Gaza

It is his success that he considers the cease-fire in and the hostage deal. New U.S. President Donald Trump said the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip and the release of dozens of hostages would never have been concluded unless he and members of the group who will join his government tomorrow. CORVERSE The agreement, announced Wednesday (15.01.2025) by Qatar and the US, is expected to be put into effect the day after tomorrow Sunday, if approved by the Israeli government. It foresees in its first phase, lasting six weeks, the release of dozens of hostages detained in the Palestinian enclave, in exchange for the release of about a thousand Palestinian prisoners in Israeli detention centres. In the second phase, the parties will negotiate the final end of the war. Four days before the inauguration for his second term, Mr Trump told the conservative pointcast Dan Bongino Show that negotiations had never brought fruit without the pressure of himself and his team, especially his future special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Whitkov. CORVERSE “If we had not been involved in this agreement, it would never have been closed,” the Republican assured. “We changed the course of the situation, and we changed it quickly, and frankly, they better have done it (p. the start of its implementation) before I swear,” he added. The Israeli government’s so-called security council is expected to meet today to consider this agreement, which is expected to enter into force the day after Sunday, on the eve of the Republican inauguration. The leader of the American right also accused outgoing President Joe Biden of not paying him the credit he deserves to conclude the agreement, saying that he was not “so kind”. “He did nothing! If I hadn’t, if we hadn’t intervened, the hostages would never have been released,” he insisted. In May 2024, Mr. Biden presented a ceasefire agreement whose terms were in practice themselves. The agreement in question initially provides for a ceasefire for 42 days, during which 33 hostages will be released and the Israeli army’s forces removed from densely populated Gaza Strip areas. Its second phase can bring the “final end” of the war, as the outgoing American president noted. As part of an interview he gave yesterday to MSNBC, Mr Biden also noted that he had not recently had any discussion with Trump’s successor about indirect negotiations.
