The Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Domena Michailidou, announced today (July 3, 2025), the allocation of a campsite area for the children of firefighters. Speaking during a meeting with the Chief of the Hellenic Fire Service, Lieutenant General Theodoros Vagias, on Tuesday, July 2, she emphasized the importance of this initiative.
Michailidou stated, ‘Providing camps for the children of our firefighters is a minimal tribute from the Ministry to recognize the invaluable work of the Fire Service. I, like every Greek citizen, feel immense gratitude towards our firefighters. They deserve to have their own summer camps.’
The minister assured that the Ministry will move forward immediately with allocating the specific camping area at the 4th camp of Agios Andreas in Marathon municipality. She continued, ‘Sustainable use of the space and the reactivation of children’s camps are also our goals. Priority will be given to cleaning the site and installing additional fire safety equipment during the summer months.’
Addressing the Fire Service Chief, Michailidou noted that upgrading and reopening these facilities is a top priority. ‘We acknowledge the contribution of the men and women of the Fire Service and respond to their justified requests within our competence. We will carefully examine the gap regarding children’s camps for the children of Fire Service personnel and employees of the General Secretariat for Civil Protection under the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection.’
The meeting took place in a friendly and cooperative atmosphere. Michailidou congratulated the entire Fire Service for its demanding work, especially in a country facing intense wildfire seasons.
