A gang that instilled fear among the elderly in many areas of Attica has been dismantled. Posing as elevator maintenance workers or DEH employees, the gang members committed numerous burglaries. After extensive investigations by the Greek FBI over several weeks, two locals, aged 39 and 43, were arrested under warrants for organized thefts amounting to over €120,000. A third suspect, a 23-year-old, has also been identified. Operating since August 2024, the group systematically targeted homes during morning and afternoon hours. They would follow elderly individuals returning from errands, pretending to be maintenance workers or utility company employees to gain entry. Once inside, they distracted victims with fake inspections while accomplices stole cash, jewelry, and valuables. The gang developed a secret communication code to avoid detection, using terms like ‘cable’ to signal entry or exit. The 39-year-old leader primarily engaged victims, while the younger members burglarized homes. Investigations uncovered substantial stolen goods, including jewelry, electronics, watches, and gambling cards. Eight burglary cases have been linked to the group across Athens, with total illicit earnings exceeding €170,000.
