Disaster images at the Arch of Constantine in Rome after a severe storm

Her Arch Constantine , the giant triumphal arch next to the Coliseum, was damaged during severe , as reported by a Reuters agency reporter. The arch was built in the 4th century AD in memory of the victory of Constantine the Great – the first Roman emperor to embrace Christianity – over Maxentis. It is about 25 metres tall and is located in the same pedestrian area as Colosseum, one of Rome’s most important tourist attractions, which was hit by the storm. “A lightning struck the arch right at this point and then in the corner and we saw this fall,” said a tourist, showing a large stone, fallen to the ground. In the images given to the public, other fallen stones around the monument are seen, while the staff of the Archaeological Park of the Colosseum rushed to collect them. The damage was caused while a storm swept the city, resulting in trees falling and many roads flooding. The Civil Protection Agency reported that 60 mm of rain fell in the center of Rome in less than an hour, which normally corresponds to that of a month in the fall. Photos: REUTERS
