Disagreements and Compromises: Opposition’s Motion of No Confidence Against the Government Over Tempi Scandal

After numerous discussions, disagreements, accusations, and tensions between members of SYRIZA and other opposition parties regarding the text of the motion of no confidence, last night representatives from the four parties involved reached an agreement on the final wording. The multi-page document, ranging from 16 to 20 pages, will be officially submitted to Parliament today following the morning speeches by political leaders during a pre-agenda debate concerning the Tempi scandal. Negotiations for the motion began several days ago with talks between Dionysis Kalamatianos and Thanasis Theoharopoulos from SYRIZA, Dimitris Biagas and Kostas Tsoukalas from PASOK, along with Peti Perka from New Left. Sources close to Harilaou Trikoupis emphasized Nikos Androulakis’ statement in Parliament that the motion represents a social demand against government dishonesty, cover-ups, and impunity. Despite initial disagreements, particularly from PASOK who wanted the motion focused solely on the Tempi issue, SYRIZA managed to include broader issues such as corruption and governance failures. Today’s submission marks a unified front against the Mitsotakis government, demanding accountability and transparency.
