Dionysis Temponeris Calls for SYRIZA to Return to Its Roots Under Tsipras’ Leadership

Dionysis Temponeris expressed strong concerns about the current state of the party during his speech at the Central Committee of SYRIZA. He criticized high-ranking members, referring to them as ‘well-meaning individuals of all kinds’ who have left the once-governing faction in a state of weakness. ‘After ten years, I don’t know if we are stronger,’ Temponeris emphasized at the Central Committee meeting, urging his colleagues to reflect on how they became stronger in the past, specifically referencing SYRIZA’s strength in 2015 under the charismatic leadership of Alexis Tsipras. In his speech, Temponeris pointed out three key components of the successful endeavor that transformed a small protest party with 3% support into one with 36%: political will, a program of unity in action, and a governing perspective. He concluded by stating that many have been calling for this return to roots—not just now when PASOK is at 13% and SYRIZA at 7%, but even when the percentages were almost reversed.
