Dimitris Natsios Criticizes Art Exhibition at National Gallery for Desecrating Icons

In response to the incidents involving vandalism of artworks at the National Gallery, commented on by MP Nikos Papadopoulos on Monday afternoon (10/03/2025), Dimitris Natsios, president of NIKA, expressed his views. In his post, Natsios references these events and questions whether similar ‘artworks’ would dare to offend the religions of Muslims or Jews. He argues that Orthodox icons are being desecrated in a disgraceful manner. His post reads: ‘Much has been said today about the incident with the blasphemous works at the Gallery. NIKA has issued an official press release and taken a formal stance. I would like to ask the Minister of Culture: Would the Gallery administration dare to exhibit ‘artworks’ that offend the religion of Muslims or Jews? Why is this permitted against Orthodox Christians? While the government and the President of the Republic ostensibly honor the Sunday of Orthodoxy and the restoration of holy icons, they allow our Madonna and saints to be vandalized in a disgraceful way. This is nothing but shame.’
