Dimitris Natsios, leader of the Greek political party ‘Niki’, appeared on ERT’s ‘Press Talk’ and rejected Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution, calling it incompatible with Orthodox Christian faith. Responding to a comment about evolution not being taught in Greek schools, Natsios stated, ‘Good that it’s not taught.’ He asserted that Orthodox Christians believe humanity descends from Adam and Eve—not apes—and claimed accepting evolutionary theory amounts to blasphemy, undermining the divine nature of Christ and the Virgin Mary. He emphasized that Orthodox faith requires both belief and reverence, rejecting the notion of ‘believe and investigate.’ Natsios also reiterated his party’s stance against including LGBTQ+ candidates on electoral lists, insisting only ‘like-minded people who align with our values’ should run.
