Greek market regulators from the Intersectoral Market Control Unit (DIMEA) seized and destroyed 41,993 counterfeit goods bearing illegal trademarks during coordinated raids carried out yesterday (5 March 2026) in Patras, Lower Achaia, Corinth, and Katerini.

Targeted Fast-Fashion Counterfeits

The operation focused on imitation clothing, footwear, accessories, and beauty products linked to a globally known online fast-fashion brand. Authorities acted following intelligence about illicit use of the company’s trademarks — many of the seized items were destined for retail stores that had unlawfully adopted the brand’s commercial name.

Fines and Legal Action

Total administrative fines imposed amounted to €224,500. In addition, criminal proceedings were initiated against two Greek nationals for trademark forgery and fraud under the ‘in flagrante’ procedure.

Joint Enforcement Effort

The operation was conducted in close cooperation with the Hellenic Police, including the Patras Cybercrime and Fraud Investigation Sub-Directorate, the Western Achaia Crime Investigation Department, and the Western Achaia Prevention and Mediation Team. Planning began approximately six weeks prior to execution.

Official Commendation

Despina Tsaggaris, Director of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (which oversees DIMEA), publicly commended both DIMEA and the Hellenic Police for the operation’s meticulous planning and successful implementation. She stated: ‘Yesterday’s action sends another strong message: the Independent Authority leaves no area of illegality unmonitored. DIMEA officers demonstrated exceptional operational readiness, designing and executing a complex anti-counterfeiting operation with precision. I extend my warmest congratulations to DIMEA and the Hellenic Police. Protecting the market, legitimate businesses, and consumers remains an absolute, non-negotiable priority.’

The Independent Authority reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to rigorous inspections aimed at ensuring fair competition, safeguarding consumers, and strengthening public trust in the marketplace.
