Didymoteicho: Tap Water Banned in 10 Villages After Floods

Ten villages in Didymoteicho are left without safe drinking water following severe flooding caused by recent bad weather. The Municipal Water Supply and Sewerage Company of Didymoteicho (DEYAD) has issued an official notice prohibiting the use of tap water in these villages as a precautionary health measure. The affected villages are: Doxa, Chionades, Elafokhori, Vrysi, Daphni, Sitochori, Asproneri, Vrysika, Giatrades, and Saoura. According to DEYAD director Nikos Petridis, speaking to ERT Orestiada on Monday, February 2, 2026, certified lab technicians from Komotini conducted mandatory water sampling for chemical and microbiological testing. Until test results confirm safety, consumption, cooking, food preparation, and washing of food with local well water is strictly prohibited. In the meantime, DEYAD is distributing free bottled water to residents.
