Diana Schneider – Maria Sakkari 1-2: Overturn and qualify for round 3 of Indian Wells

Diana Schneider managed to put… hard on for a 1.5 set, but then she “bleached”. The Greek champion won 2-1 sets and passed the 3rd round of Indian Wells (WTA 1000). Maria Sakkari was found to… chase Diana Schneider (no74) sets, but reduced effortless mistakes, found stability in her game and—with coach, David Whitt for the first time in her box— finally prevailed 7–5, 4–6, 0–6 at her premiere at this year’s Indian Wells. Maria Sakkari was found with her… back against the wall in the first set losing 5-2 to Diana Schneider. The Greek champion, however, made her impressive counterattack and reached 5-5. The 19-year-old Russian woman showed the necessary coolness at that point and – difficult to conquer the last two games – took the first set 7-5. Sakkaris and Schneider reached 3–3 in the second set, with the Greek tennis player achieving the break she was looking for and doing 3–4 and then 3–5. The Russian woman took the next game to eventually lose the 6–4 set. The victory was judged in a third set. Maria Sakkari had the momentum on her side, Schneider seemed not to set foot so well on her left foot, the Greek champion made three breaks and reached 0-6 and qualified.
