Department of Theatre Studies, Nafplio: “the restoration of truth”

Read the announcement: “On 30/12/15 the secretary of state for education, lord Well, a guest at… show SERIES “the Misfits”, it was reported in the department of theatre, University of Peloponnese, presenting a picture that has nothing to do with reality.
Mr. Well said that Greece has four sections of theatre, which is not the case in any of the cases as part of the Thessaloniki school of theatre and differs substantially in content from the departments of theatre. Still, he stressed that the Department of Nafplio works with two FACULTY members at the time that in fact the department has sixteen. Both the student association and the teaching staff of our Department were in contact with the main cinematic images, and letting the initial annoyance for the inaccuracies that have been said, and asking for the immediate restoration of the truth. The response did not include any intention of remodeling of the statements, nor even an apology for the incorrect information that in good faith thinking we that he had. Since, therefore, the Secretary of state for Education lord will be Repeated assumes the responsibilities of operations and does not intend to restore the reputation of our Department, we, the Student Association of the department of Theatre Studies, Nafplion.
Initially the Department has a dual character. Two directions: theatre and performing arts. Combines, i.e., theoretical and practical training. The Department of Nafplio, which was presented as a poorly functioning, every year, in May, Festival Theatre Production. Yet there are courses in drama and theatre pedagogy, directing, acting, dance and physical theatre, theatre of the repressed, theater, documentary etc. that should enable the student to deepen substantially and actively in the art of the theatre. As we read and on the official website of the Municipality of Nafplio: “Very important is the contribution of the students of the department in the cultural life of the city. In the context of their studies, but also outside of these, very often present performances, carry out exhibitions and film screenings, and more generally contribute through various activities of artistic nature in the cultural and cultural flowering of the city”. The Department works directly with the local community and the citizens of Nafplio respond with enthusiasm, both in the performances of the students, and auditions, and classes. Anyone who wants to get to know our Section to attend the dozens of presentations and performances that are played in the context of courses in both the fall and spring semester. In addition, every year, a large number of students do their internship in schools of Argolida in the field of θεατροπαιδαγωγικών. It is worth mentioning additionally that two years ago an assessment was made of the Department and it was positive. Still, sturdy paper of the Department’s new master’s degree with the title “Dramatic Art and Performing Arts in Education and Lifelong Learning” (MA in Drama and Performing Arts in Education and Lifelong Learning). It is an innovative project for our country that attracts θεατρολόγους, teachers of all grades and every specialty, psychologists, sociologists, and, generally, scholars from the field of humanities from all over Greece. Finally, we must mention and καμαρώσουμε as the assistant professor of our department Yannis Leontaris as soon as he took office as President of the Greek Centre of Cinema.
As well can easily see any of the Sq.Th.P. no run, on the contrary it is alive and kicking a year and creates, often under difficult circumstances. The Municipality of Nafplio recognizing the importance of operation of such a department in the city has granted facilities for their housing. That is, the Sq.Th.P. not add considerably to the operating costs of the state budget.
In a period of economic crisis we should not be seeking the downgrading of education, nor the tarnishing of parts that offer essentially the cultivation and development of students and society, more rewarding, and the support for such efforts. You will have the responsibility to be better informed, and each time referred to in sections of higher education, to reward in any way they can so the students and the teachers who serve culture and education under difficult circumstances. We’re not looking for scapegoats. We expect the reconstruction of the statements of the secretary of state as the minimum that should be done across the Department.”
