The United States “will not acquire” Greenland, which will decide its own future, responded newly appointed Danish Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen today (30/03/2025) to U.S. President Donald Trump. “President Donald Trump states that the U.S. will acquire Greenland. We are clear: The U.S. will not acquire Greenland. We do not belong to anyone else. We decide our own future,” Nielsen stated in a Facebook post. In an interview with NBC News, Trump reiterated that the U.S. “will acquire Greenland, 100%.” Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen will undertake a three-day visit to Greenland this week to strengthen unity within the kingdom concerning the Arctic island. Major Greenlandic parties seek independence for the island but disagree on how to achieve it. American pressures have pushed them to unite, forming a four-party coalition government.
