Dendias on Turkey’s Permanent NAVTEX: We Don’t Take Them Seriously

Defense Minister Nikos Dendias dismissed Turkey’s ‘permanent NAVTEX’ notices for the Aegean as legally meaningless and politically motivated. Speaking on Alpha Radio, he stated clearly: ‘It is obvious that Greece cannot take such an approach seriously—and Turkey knows it.’ He added that these notices hold no legal substance and do not affect Greek sovereignty or maritime rights. Dendias emphasized that such moves harm bilateral relations and stressed that Greece will not treat them as binding or actionable. ‘We are in no way inclined to consider this as an action requiring a response that would imply acceptance of its validity in practice,’ he said, calling the move entirely outside established norms.
