The auction of a plot owned by Greek footballer Demos Nikolaidis in Alexandroupoli has been temporarily suspended. The news broke on Thursday morning (05.02.2026) during the TV show ‘To Proino’, where Stergios Samartzis, editor-in-chief of Espresso, revealed that the auction—originally scheduled for March 11—will not proceed as planned. The reason remains unclear, with three possible scenarios: Nikolaidis may have settled his debt related to the plot, fully paid the outstanding amount, or a procedural issue arose. Located just 400 meters from the sea in Nea Chili—a neighborhood tied to Nikolaidis’ origins—the plot had a starting bid of €458,000 and attracted significant buyer interest. Reports note that Nikolaidis and former partner Despina Vandi faced serious financial difficulties in recent years, including bank loans.
