Eur 460 000 was constructed with the resources of the NSRF Thessaly through the Integrated Development Plan of the Island of Skiathos (THEAS).
Satisfaction for the quick completion of the project expressed by the prefect of Thessaly, mr. Costas Αγοραστός, who said the following: “A dream of life of the inhabitants of Skiathos became a reality. Finally, the island acquired the indoor basketball court which for years have longed for its inhabitants. Through the NSRF Thessaly we have funded a project that is expected to give the island of Skiathos, a new athletic breath, since there will be the possibility of sport in an enclosed area with modern specifications. The sport is for the Region of Thessaly philosophy of life, and that’s why all these years we support sport and young people. With this project, as well as with the rest, implement, and complete to the islands of B. Sporades, support jobs and create leverage in the local economy and society”.
ELEMENTS OF THE PROJECT
The project had as a goal the improvement of facilities in the field of basketball, in the town of Skiathos as well as the old stadium was in poor condition and it was open. The improvement was in housing court with construction of mixed trusses of attachment and a special membrane with cell openings, to the manufacturing floor in accordance with the applicable specifications, the stands, ancillary spaces, locker rooms, etc., adequate lighting, required equipment, and landscaping.
Now with the completion of the project, created a place of recreation and sport in accordance with the necessary conditions of security and functionality, available to users throughout the course of the year. Upgrading and housing of the field was a long-standing request of students and of the bodies of Skiathos. With this project the Island becomes a modern space, sport and recreation.
Implementing agency of the project is Directorate of Technical Projects of the Regional Unit of Magnesia and Sporades islands and main of the project the Municipality of Skiathos. The project was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
