Delivered cheque for € 240,000 for the housing of unaccompanied minors to the Red Cross!

With a minute’s silence in memory of the victims of the terrorist attack in Nice, started the event for delivery by the Delegation…
the European Commission, in Athens, to the Greek Red Cross payment of a cheque amounting to € 240,000, for the support of minors refugees.
The amount raised will be allocated to support the extremely vulnerable group of unaccompanied minors. In particular, the amount will be used for the creation of a structure for hosting minors in the area that will be selected in cooperation with the competent state authorities. The initiative, which took the name EUStaff4Refugees, belongs to the staff of the EU Delegation in Greece, and began as a sign of support and solidarity to the refugees that are hosted in our country last April.
Very quickly, the initiative has received pan-european character with the active support of the employees of the institutions of the European Union (European Commission, European Parliament, European Court of justice, Court of Auditors, European Central Bank, European Investment Fund) in Brussels, in Strasbourg, in Luxembourg and in all the european capitals, who collected goods useful for refugees and money.
The action was also attended by the European External Action Service (EEAS), the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (CEDEFOP), as well as the Greek Embassy in Brussels and Luxembourg. The implementation had the full support of the Vice-president of the European Commission Kristalina Georgieva, Vice-president of the EU and High Representative of the Union for Foreign affairs and Security Federica Mogherini, Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos and Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos Stylianides. In Athens, the action came under the auspices of the Municipality of Athens.
Total collected 11 tonnes of emergency supplies, which, following a suggestion of the Greek Red Cross, were delivered in two refugee camps (Scaramanga and Diavata) and collected a total of € 240,000 to the special account in favour of refugees, which has created the Hellenic Red Cross. The event delivery was prefaced by the Head of the European Commission Delegation in Greece Panos Karvounis. The cheque was handed over to President of the Greek Red Cross Antonis Avgerinos, by the Chief Press officer of the European Commission Margaritis Schinas.
