A pivotal initiative for the sustainable development of Greek livestock farming and equitable distribution of subsidies through OPKEPE is being implemented under the leadership of Deputy Minister Kostas Tsiafas. The decision involves assigning the competitive process for drafting Grazing Management Plans to all administrative regions to the ‘Information Society Single-Person AE’. The project will be executed through a Programmatic Agreement between the Ministry of Rural Development and Food and the ‘Information Society’, aiming to develop grazing plans nationwide, enhancing the utilization of grazing lands and supporting livestock farmers. The drafting of Grazing Management Plans, as outlined in Article 3 of Law 4351/2015, will cover all usable grazing areas, improving transparency and efficiency in planning and utilizing pasturelands. The project includes: A nationwide survey of the characteristics and usage status of grazing lands, estimation of grazing capacity, classification into pasture units allocated to livestock farmers, identification of infrastructure projects to improve grazing capacity, and cost calculation for land and livestock management development. The ‘Information Society AE’ will oversee the preparation of tender documents, conduct competitive procedures, monitor project execution, and ensure full technical and financial documentation. Funding comes from grazing fees and the Agriculture and Livestock Fund, as per Article 5 of Law 4351/2015. This project is crucial for strengthening Greek livestock farming sustainably, ensuring fairer European subsidy distribution through OPKEPE.
