Daylight Saving Time Change in 2025: When to Move Clocks Forward

The moment when the day will seemingly stretch is approaching, as the established time change is coming. The daylight saving time change will occur on the last Sunday of March (March 30, 2025). At 03:00 AM, clocks must be moved forward by one hour to 04:00 AM, resulting in losing an hour of sleep. Summer time will remain in effect until Sunday, October 26, 2025, when winter time returns. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport is expected to issue the official announcement in the coming weeks. The primary goal of the time change is energy conservation, as during the summer period, natural light is utilized for more hours, thus reducing artificial lighting usage. It’s estimated that the country saves approximately 210 hours of electricity annually due to daylight saving time. This practice was established in the 1970s during the oil crisis when many European countries sought ways to reduce energy consumption. Since 1996, a unified regulation has been in place across the European Union, where clocks are moved forward one hour in Spring and back one hour in Autumn. In Greece, the first trial of time change occurred in 1932, from July 6 to September 1, when clocks were moved forward one hour. While the time change aims to conserve energy, there are disagreements about its effectiveness. Some scientists argue that changing the time can cause health issues such as cardiovascular diseases and sleep disorders due to disruption of the biological clock. Despite the controversies, daylight saving time continues to be implemented in Europe and other countries like the United States and France.
