Daylight Saving Time 2025: When to Set Your Clocks Forward

in

On the last Sunday of March (March 30, 2025), we will switch to summer time, as we do every year. The time change will happen automatically on electronic devices connected to the internet, but for analog clocks, you’ll need to adjust them manually. Specifically, at 3:00 a.m., clock hands should move forward by one hour, showing 4:00 a.m. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport announced that on Sunday, March 30, 2025, winter time will end according to EU Directive 2000/84. Citizens are reminded to adjust their clocks accordingly. Summer time will remain in effect until Sunday, October 26, 2025. This measure was initiated to better utilize daylight during summer months and save energy. In the 1970s, just two years after the 1973 European energy crisis, many countries, including Greece, adopted daylight saving time. Since 1996, a unified, pan-European regulation has been in place where clocks are moved forward an hour in spring and back an hour in autumn. Iceland does not follow this practice, while Belarus stopped seasonal changes in 2011, adopting permanent summer time (UTC +3). Russia also implemented continuous summer time (+4 UTC) starting April 27, 2011, via decree from then-President Dmitry Medvedev. In March 2019, the European Parliament approved the proposal to end seasonal time changes, delaying the decision for member states until 2021. Time changes may affect concentration and mood, especially in the first few days, so drivers should be cautious as accidents can increase post-change.
