As of July 2, 1999 when the Renault Group took 51% of Romanian, and from the following year came out the first Renault-powered model, Dacia changed course, for the better. With models based on floors and mechanical parts of Renault, with smart design and different equipment elements, Dacia’s models have won a general audience in Europe, with the first and best Sandero, which is currently Europe’s best seller model, as it offers what we call value for money, i.e. an ideal value/product relationship. Sandero in addition to the simple version, is also offered to – in my opinion – the most attractive eye and hand, Stepway, which is essentially the crossover version, but let’s call it SUV because this name now dominates with 20.1 cm from the ground. The new mask, with the brand’s new mark, the chrome, the perimeter protectors and the aprons front and back, highlight the off-road appearance of the model, accompanied by LED lamps and roof rails. The cab with a driver-centered character shows and is of quality, with air ducts reminiscent of the brand’s signal and at the four-lane steering wheel encircling the name Dacia. The 8-inch touch screen for the multimedia system seems to be suspended and allows for a multimedia connection. We’ll also find a mobile phone support box high on the dashboard, as well as rotary controls for air conditioning. Better quality the plastic of the cabin, and beautiful imitation of carbon fibers on the dashboard. The seats provide good side support and the head restraint design looks like they are integrated. Back, the comfort even for three adults is good, with 410 liters of volume in the trunk looking enough to travel. It makes it convenient that the seats are divided by 60:40 and folded. As for the motor set, 90 horses may not be much, but come from a reliable 1,0lt petrol motor, three cylinder, tested in the Renault group. The torque of 142Nm is good for horsepower and combined with the CVT gearbox, constantly changing relationships, “drawing” the car smoothly, without exacerbation, as it makes sense. I have not tried to drive with 5 passengers, but I believe that for an average driver there will be no issue with the car pulling, and that is the point. Like average fuel consumption, which is well below 6 liters per 100 km and this ranks it in very economical. Welcome to the road, without unnecessary inclinations, a “honored” car in its behavior, with a predictable steering system, the Sandero Stepway with the automatic box, if you are not interested in driving in red and pushing the motor aimlessly, is a car you need to look at, because it has good equipment.
