Unanswered questions remain surrounding the tragic deaths of two young brothers found lifeless inside a parked car in Cyprus. The children — aged 8 and 10 — were discovered unconscious in the Xylotou area on Sunday afternoon and were rushed to hospital by ambulance, but doctors were unable to revive them.
Father and Stepmother in Custody
Police from the British Sovereign Base Areas (SBAs) of Dhekelia arrested the children’s 30-year-old father and 38-year-old stepmother shortly after the incident. Both remain in custody and are expected to appear before a prosecutor today (29 June 2026). They are scheduled to give formal statements regarding the case as investigations continue.
Holiday Visit from Bulgaria
According to George Julianou, President of the Xylotou Community Council, the boys — originally from Bulgaria — were visiting Cyprus for a holiday to spend time with their father. Reports indicate that the father and stepmother left home for work early that morning, while the children reportedly entered the parked vehicle and became trapped under circumstances currently under investigation.
Burns Detected on Bodies
Medical examiners observed burns on both children’s bodies during initial examinations. The exact cause of death has not yet been determined and will be established following post-mortem examinations, which are pending.
Authorities from the British SBA Police are continuing their inquiry, reviewing all possible scenarios that may have led to this devastating outcome.
