Shocking scenes were captured on Sunday (06.07.2025) at Diskos beach, west of Lenda in the southern part of Heraklion region, Crete. Dozens of migrants disembarked from a vessel operated by human traffickers who had brought them from Libya’s shores. Footage published on cretalive.gr shows the moment the migrants stepped off the boat and onto the beach, surrounded by locals and tourists enjoying their Sunday swim.
The images poignantly and dramatically illustrate the escalating migrant crisis in Crete. The exhausted foreigners, packed tightly aboard a small vessel, jumped into the water shouting, desperate to reach the shore — all while families with children and holidaymakers looked on in shock.
Throughout the morning and into the early afternoon, wave after wave of migrant boats arrived along the southern coastline of Heraklion and in Agia Galini. According to the latest reports, approximately 800 migrants reached the island in recent hours.
The situation highlights growing concerns over increasing migration flows to Greece’s southern borders, placing both local authorities and communities under mounting pressure.
