A Crete court has sentenced the mother of three-year-old Angelos to life imprisonment plus an additional 23 years and 9 months, after he died from severe abuse. Her 44-year-old former partner received a concurrent life sentence plus 24 years and 3 months.
Convictions Upheld by Heraklion Court
The Mixed Jury Court of Heraklion unanimously found both defendants guilty of premeditated homicide as co-perpetrators while in a calm mental state. They were also convicted of causing grievous bodily harm and intentional serious physical injury, again as co-perpetrators.
Additional Charges
Both were further convicted of endangering a minor, illegal possession and use of a weapon — specifically a wooden club — and unlawful possession of a hunting firearm. The 44-year-old was separately found guilty of collecting and recording personal data, but acquitted of drug possession charges.
No Leniency Granted
The court rejected the 27-year-old’s defense claim of diminished criminal responsibility. It also dismissed all requests for mitigating circumstances submitted by both defendants’ attorneys.
Father Acquitted
The child’s biological father, who had faced separate charges related to earlier abuse of Angelos, was acquitted.
