A couple became victims of a violent wood theft incident in Markopoulo. Two individuals assaulted the couple and subsequently stole their truck, which was later found dismantled. The two Romani perpetrators stole the couple’s truck in Markopoulo and abandoned it without an engine or doors. The woman broke down in front of the Star camera when she saw her dismantled truck outside the police station. Just hours earlier, she and her husband had been attacked and robbed. The ordeal began at 2 PM on Tuesday (May 13, 2025), on Buki Street in Markopoulo, a central road lined with houses. The woman, a farmer, had stepped out of the truck to check a garden when the savage attack by the two assailants commenced. “They hit me, they threw me down, and I got up so they wouldn’t steal the car… A hand from behind pulled me by my jacket… Once I fell and once I got up to grab the car,” the woman described. However, the couple could not save their vehicle. The perpetrators, who were Romani, took the truck and literally dismantled it, removing the hood, engine, lights, doors, and even the dashboard.
