Coropi: How a 51-Year-Old’s Knife Attack Inside an AT Bus Left Three Injured

in

An alarming incident unfolded early Sunday morning (March 30, 2025), when the EL.AS headquarters received reports of a knife attack inside a bus in Coropi. This unexpected act caused widespread concern, leading to fears that it might have been orchestrated by an unknown Islamic foreign extremist carrying out a ‘blind’ attack. Consequently, there was massive mobilization across all levels of law enforcement. However, investigations revealed that the perpetrator was a 51-year-old Greek man with a history of theft and violence. The incident began shortly before 11 a.m., as the man wielding a knife attacked a passenger on a moving bus in Coropi. After fleeing the scene, he entered the local police station calmly but then inexplicably assaulted the station chief, striking him on the head with the knife. He continued his rampage by attacking another officer, injuring his leg. While the injured chief was rushed to a health center, officers from the immediate action team arrived at the scene. As the attacker attempted to harm another policeman, the officer drew his pistol and shot him in the leg. Despite being wounded, the attacker re-entered the station and injured a young woman with the bloodied knife. Ultimately, members of the Special Operations Unit hunted him down within the station and managed to subdue him, placing him under arrest.
