and “scan” the week of Christmas according to the EOPI report with 24 people losing their lives. Specifically, according to the report of the EOMI the coronavirus caused 22 deaths in the week 23-29 December, while two deaths caused by the flu, with the positiveness of the increase. CORVERSE In particular, the EOI report shall indicate: SARS-CoV2 virus – COVID-19 infection The positiveness of all samples tested showed an increase over the previous week. The number of new imports showed a decrease compared to last week. 515 new imports were recorded. The average weekly number of new imports over the previous 4 weeks was 564. The number of new intubations was six. The average weekly number of new intubations over the past 4 weeks was nine. The number of patients infected with COVID-19 intubated is 26. The number of deaths was 22. The average weekly number of deaths in the previous 4 weeks was 28. Since the beginning of the year the recorded deaths in serious cases (suspended and/or hospitalized in ICUs) amount to 336. The strain that continues to prevail in the detections is KP.3, while the XEC shows an upward trend. The average viral load in urban sewage is at moderate levels in five of the eight controlled areas, with a recorded increase in four of them compared to the previous week, while in other areas it is low. Flu virus The positiveness for influenza in the community (as estimated by the Sentinel FTE surveillance network) has exceeded the threshold indicating the onset of seasonal influenza activity (10%), continuing its upward trend. The positiveness of the SARI surveillance network samples is increasing. 11 new serious cases were recorded with ICU hospitalisation and 2 new deaths from laboratory confirmed influenza. Overall, 24 laboratory confirmed cases of influenza with ICU hospitalisation and three deaths from laboratory confirmed influenza have been recorded since the influenza surveillance authority. Between 1,341 samples (sentinel community origin, SARI surveillance and hospitals outside surveillance networks), 72 (5%) positive samples were found for influenza viruses. 70 of them were standardized, with 67 belonging to the formula A and all three in type B. Of 67 type strains A subtyped, 20 (30%) belonged to subtype A(H3) and 47 (70%) to subtype A(H1) pdm09. Influenza – ILI (irrespective of pathogen) The number of flu cases per 1,000 visits is rising, showing an increase compared to last week. Severe Acute Respiratory Infection – SARI (irrespective of pathogen) The number of SARI cases per 1,000 visits showed an increase compared to last week. Respiratory sympathetic virus – RSV The positiveness in the community (Sentinel PHY surveillance network) is low, while no positive samples were found in hospitals (Sari surveillance network).
