The average weekly number of deaths in the previous 4 weeks was 22 . ✓ From 27/9 ECDC was recognised as an executive of interest BA.286’s sub-variant KP.3, while BA.2.86’s sub-variant XEC was also placed under surveillance. Both KP.3 and XEC have not been associated with an increased risk of severe disease. The strain that continues to prevail in the detections is KP.3. Overall, from week 40/2024 to week 46/2024 a laboratory confirmed case with ICU hospitalisation (type A(H3)) and no death has been recorded. From week 40/2024 to week 46/2024, between 685 samples (originated Sentinel community, surveillance SARI and hospitals outside surveillance networks), two positive samples were found for influenza A viruses. One of them was substandard and belonged to subtype A(H3). No positive samples were found in the community (Sentinel PHY surveillance network), nor in hospitals (Sari surveillance network).
