The kitchen at a nursing home in Corfu has been ordered closed until July 20, 2025, following an inspection by the Directorate of Public Health of the Ionian Islands Region. According to an announcement released on Saturday (July 5, 2025), the Regional Authority conducted an inspection through its Public Health and Social Welfare Services, uncovering hygiene issues within the kitchen premises as well as concerns regarding the quality of food used for residents’ meals. As a result, the facility’s kitchen will remain non-operational until July 20, 2025, allowing time to fully address deficiencies and ensure safe dining conditions. A follow-up inspection will be carried out on that date to confirm compliance with hygiene standards before operations can resume. The Governor of the Ionian Islands Region, Giannis Trepelkis, emphasized: ‘Our services will continue to monitor living conditions in local welfare institutions. With utmost respect for our elderly citizens and their families, we will not allow any risk to their health or dignity. The Region is functioning as a regulatory mechanism and will take all necessary actions to protect vulnerable groups. We are confident the Central Corfu Municipality will act promptly to resolve these issues and restore normal function to the facility. Our goal is to leave no social unit to chance. Inspections will continue consistently and responsibly across the region.’
