Corfu: Complaints Over Expired Food Served to Elderly in Nursing Home

in

Serious complaints have emerged regarding the Corfu nursing home, where it is alleged that expired food was served to elderly residents. Shocking images show moldy carrots, canned goods expired since 2024, crackers, and soft drinks that should have been removed from the kitchen and destroyed as their expiration dates had long passed by 2024. A staff member working in the kitchen expressed shock over the revelations, stating that these foods were given to the elderly for consumption. Furthermore, they mentioned receiving threats after informing management about the unsuitable condition of the food. Following complaints, health services conducted an inspection of the food storage areas and refrigerators at the nursing home. The public exposure of these issues has angered the relatives of the elderly, who are demanding action from authorities and accountability for those responsible. Additionally, a kitchen employee reported being threatened with job loss after raising concerns about the expired food. Board member Vasia Papadimitriou attempted to inspect the storage area but found the key was held by management. Investigations continue, and following inspections by health officials, the expired products were removed. It remains unknown whether any of the expired items were consumed by the elderly residents.
