Controversial Past of Greek MP Kyriazidis: Sexist Attack on Konstantopoulou

Dramas-based New Democracy MP, Dimitris Kyriazidis, faced backlash after making an unacceptable sexist remark during a parliamentary discussion on March 7, 2025. While Zoi Konstantopoulou was addressing the Greek parliament, Kyriazidis told her to ‘go make a child,’ sparking immediate condemnation from both his party and the opposition. This incident is not an isolated case; Kyriazidis has a history of sexist and homophobic comments. In the past, he made derogatory remarks about Stefanos Kasselakis, questioning the article used before Kasselakis’s name in a TV interview. Despite calls for his removal from New Democracy, including one by Kasselakis himself, Kyriazidis remains active within the party. His political journey began with a career in law enforcement, leading him to co-found the Panhellenic Federation of Police Officers (P.O.A.S.Y.) in 1990. Elected as an MP for New Democracy in 2012, he has held various roles within the party, including Deputy General Secretary and Sector Chief of Public Order. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis recently questioned whether Kyriazidis should remain in the party.
