Contractors Arrested Over Negligent Homicide in Fatal Construction Accident

Two contractors responsible for a construction site where a 28-year-old crane operator tragically died from electrocution on Wednesday morning (March 12, 2025) are being led to the prosecutor’s office Thursday afternoon (March 13, 2025). The accused were located Thursday morning and arrested through an expedited process, facing charges of negligent homicide under Law 4495/2017 regarding occupational safety. According to the incident report published by newsit.gr, at approximately 9:30 AM on March 12, 2025, the Athens Fire Brigade was informed about a workplace accident that occurred around 9:00 AM in Voula, Attica, on Ermou Street No. 8. Preliminary findings indicate that the 28-year-old victim was operating a crane outside the building when part of the crane’s arm came into contact with high-voltage power lines during material handling operations. He was transported by private means, specifically his brother’s vehicle, to the Asklepieio Hospital in Voula immediately after the incident, arriving at 11:40 AM. An investigation team, including labor inspectors, was called to the scene. Arrest warrants were issued against the two contractors within the framework of an expedited procedure, which concluded at midnight on March 13, 2025.
