Continued abstention of lawyers until May 7

The Plenary assembly of the Presidents of the Bar Associations of the country which held an extraordinary meeting in Athens today, was updated in detail…
and examined in depth the proposed provisions of the insurance bill and decided to extend the nationwide abstention of lawyers from their duties up to Saturday, May 7, 2016.
In particular, the assembly believes that the bill in spite of the individual changes, has not changed substantially in content and the proposed provisions continue to lead to confiscation of the greater part of the income of the lawyers, threatening directly the professional and economic status.
The president of the CAA and the Session Key. Alexandris, devoted particular attention to the unconstitutionality of the contested bill, as recorded in the recent opinion of the Court of auditors and in particular:
1. The lack of actuarial studies which had pointed out from the outset with the Bar body,
2. The inclusion of all members, the public and the private sector in a single body, which makes it according to the Court, it’s unconstitutional, the bill in its entirety and
3. The differentiation of old and new pensioners as to the amount of the paid pension.
Then, the Plenary approved the proposal of the Steering Committee and decided the continuation of the nationwide abstention of Lawyers from their duties up to Saturday, 7.5.2016 and the meeting of the Coordination Committee of Bar Associations on Friday, 6.5.2016.
